Malia McDermott earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University, a COAMFTE-accredited program known for its emphasis on clinical excellence and systemic thinking. She began her clinical work in 2018 with Catholic Community Services of Western Washington, where she worked primarily with children and families. Malia brings a warm, collaborative approach to therapy and is especially passionate about helping families navigate relational challenges and rebuild strong, healthy connections.
With specialized experience in anxiety, depression, ADHD, and addiction, Malia focuses on supporting children and adolescents using client-directed, systemically grounded Play Therapy techniques. She believes in the power of play as a natural language for children and uses this approach to help young clients process emotions, develop coping skills, and strengthen family bonds. Malia also works closely with parents and caregivers, equipping them with tools to better support their child’s mental and emotional development.
In addition to her clinical work, Malia is actively involved in her community and has coached high school and travel volleyball for over two decades. Her love of mentoring young people extends beyond the court into her therapeutic work, where she brings consistency, encouragement, and empathy to each client relationship.
Malia and her family relocated from the Seattle area to Hurricane, Utah in 2019. She is married with two children, and together they enjoy all things sports—especially cheering on the Seattle Seahawks. Malia is proud to serve families across Southern Utah and is dedicated to helping children and teens find healing, resilience, and a renewed sense of hope.
